Because of the camera lens or the angle of the photographer, this person's head looks misshapen. It's not that it's unflattering, it's that it looks distorted. Liz (talk) 20:43, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is an image from Category:Files from Canadian Film Centre Flickr stream. Over the last dozen years or more the Canadian Film Centre has held close to one hundred events, and have uploaded to flickr thousands of photos of figures from the Canadian film industry under a free cc license. Category:Files from Canadian Film Centre Flickr stream contains about 5000 images.
  • Category:Headshots of individuals cropped from the Canadian Film Centre's photos currently contains 904 images. Over the last seven years or so I am responsible for most, but not all of those 904 crops.
  • I am not going to weigh in with a keep or a delete today. I will list note that a few other images, from the headshots category, show some slight distortion, or were taken under less than ideal lighting conditions, or were snapped when one figure in the group shot was holding their head at an odd angle. If we did not already have a headshot of the individual, I uploaded less than ideal images thinking they were better than nothing. Geo Swan (talk) 22:13, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Liz, I thought I left a substantive, meaningful reply to the concern you voiced. I am pinging you to draw it now to draw it to your attention. I will add that dozens, maybe more than 100, of the approximately 1000 crops of the images of individuals from the Canadian film industry made their way into the infobox of BLPs on those individuals, articles that had previously been unillustrated.

Up until you raised your concern I would not have hesitated to add this image into the infobox of an article on Mr Boxen. Clearly common courtesy would cause us to use the most flattering image we have. And if the only image we have has a very slight distortion, like this one, then we should use that one.

If you are arguing that this image is just too unflattering for us to use could you explain your reasoning more fully? Geo Swan (talk) 15:30, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Keep, I didn't explicitly say keep, before. I think the image is clearly in scope, as Boxen is a significant figure in the film industry, that is, someone who may be covered in a Wikipedia.

Because I don't think nominator Liz actually challenged whether the image was in scope, I call for closure. Geo Swan (talk) 22:10, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • I repeat my call for closure. Geo Swan (talk) 23:53, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
