UPI photo-copyright status in question. A UPI photo via Unipix. The legal department of the US Library of Congress warns that UPI photos' copyright status may be difficult to determine. LOC statement-"However, the Library’s legal office has advised the Division that photographs published with proper copyright notices between 1923-1963 may be protected if properly renewed, while works published after 1963 and unpublished photographs in the collection may be protected even if they were not registered with the Copyright Office."We hope (talk) 20:48, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
Comment I think that the closing administrator also should read the uploader's points at en:WP:MCQ#Multiple UPI images tagged with erroneous rationals. --Stefan4 (talk) 22:22, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- The rational given is essentially irrelevant, other than its focus on a particular news organization's photos. A copyright notice is still required, and the LOC did not exempt UPI from that. See earlier discussion for a Peter Sellers image.--Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 17:14, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
