reasons:

  1. the source is unclear and unreliable.
  2. the style of the painting is not that of 19th century chinese paintings. the shades on both shoulders, the way the face is drawn, etc., are not like old chinese paintings. for chinese style, see Category:Qingdai Xuezhe Xiangzhuan for example. this drawing's style is more similar to lianhuanhua style, being influenced by western techniques.

therefore, it's uncertain where this drawing came from and whether it is old enough (before 1950s?) to be pd. RZuo (talk) 20:02, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Oppose While of dubious origin, this is one of only two known contemporary illustrations claiming to illustrate the Taiping leader. Its not resembling Chinese paintings is due to being an engraving published in a European book, specifically Yvan and Callery's 1853 work L'Insurrection en Chine. An English edition containing the illustration can be found here: https://archive.org/details/historyofinsurre00call/page/n5/mode/2up. Granted, it is unclear that it is supposed to illustrate Hong Xiuquan specifically as opposed to the fanciful 'Tien-Te' whom Yvan and Callery mistakenly identified as the Taiping leader. There used to be an online version of a different alleged portrait of Hong Xiuquan painted by a Shanghai painter in 1862, but the site hosting it has updated and removed it and it is only available on request from Nicholas Grindley LLC.EnclavedMicrostate (talk) 13:53, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
