This file was moved from en.WP where it has a fair-use-rationale. The upload-bot thus added a speedy-delete because of that template. But I don't think that it is not PD, but as I'm not 100% sure I moved it here for others to figure out. The movie to this poster had it's premiere in February 1922, and was released in March 1922 (see [1]). So this poster could be pre-1923. But as there is no source it is not known if this poster was released immediately with the movie. There are definitely more posters than this one (see [2]). Does somebody know where to search for this kind of information? -- Cecil (talk) 17:40, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Date

You are not the first moderator I have come across here who did not have a clue. Basic knowledge: A movie poster is released to publicise a film which is coming out in the coming weeks. There is no point in a poster after the film has done the rounds and vanished. I looked at the site and it gives that poster a date of 1922. Why are you looking for trouble when there is none there?

I know people who will not contribute to the wikipedia because of it's positive mania with copyright. If someone makes a mistake on another site, the copyright owner just asks that it be removed and it is done so and both parties are satisfied. The wikipedia is not a profit making, printed encyclopedia where thousands of copies would have to be recalled and pulped if a serious mistake on copyright was made.(Cyberia3 (talk) 08:19, 23 June 2010 (UTC))[reply]

You are wrong in several things. First, this is Commons, not Wikipedia. This is a media repository meant for everybody, not only Wikipedia. Everybody who needs media for commercial reasons can come here and use the stuff provided. I've seen images from Commons in newspapers, on book covers, ... If they have to recall and pulp or pay damage because they trusted in us, it is maybe their loss in financial things but it is our damage in reputation as a free media repository. Second, Wikipedia is indeed a printed encyclopedia, and not only that, you can also buy it on DVD and in several other ways. Also images here can be bought as high-quality-posters (if the image quality is enough). These are services offered by Wikimedia.
And now to the topic. You are unnecessarly rude. You are discrediting yourself with this kind of behaviour and making yourself unbelievable. Now I have to wait some more for somebody trustworthy to be able to close this request, because you failed to even notice that there nowhere is a request to delete this image, just to provide needed information. That's why I removed the speedy-del.request. Remove the foam from your mouth, then maybe you can see things a bit more clearly. -- Cecil (talk) 12:31, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
