"I, the copyright holder of this work" - is it really applying? Based on https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Village_pump/Copyright/Archive/2022/05#Is_this_chart_qualifying_for_PD-shape%3F it seems that chart alone qualifies for copyright and uploader is almost certainly not author of it. Maybe it qualifies as free software and icon on right as de minimis but I am really not sure. (if anyone is curious why I am trawling through Firefox screenshots: I am trying to figure out how one that I just taken is licensed and keep finding really dubious ones on Commons) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 07:43, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm the uploader. Why does chart qualify for copyright? Everything shown is free software (install-able from Debian free software section, meeting DFSG). How should it be labeled correctly? Thanks. Gryllida (talk) 23:51, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
- Based on https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Village_pump/Copyright/Archive/2022/05#Is_this_chart_qualifying_for_PD-shape%3F chart design can be sufficiently creative to qualify for copyright (maybe they were wrong? or design of automatically generated one is different case?) - "How should it be labeled correctly?" - no idea, if I would know then I would just change it :( Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 08:39, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not that convinced about that OSM chart being copyrightable. Anyway, in this case File:Firebug load time of mediawiki.org.png is a chart generated automatically by firebug, so there are no decisions made by Gryllida when creating the screenshot (who, in any case, could have licensed it). One might argue that the chart embeds copyrighted material by Firebug authors. But firebug itself was licensed under BSD, so no (clear) violation there. If any, I would argue that a BSD license would have been more appropriate, as perhaps there wasn't enough basis to license the screenshot as CC-BY-SA 3.0.
