1922 Irish photograph. TinEye had a hit for something that was once on the Irish Times website but now 404s. It could be public domain but when it was published in the 1920s, it could have been published with the credit. Abzeronow (talk) 17:49, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Keep We generally do not delete on the hypothetical that an author may have been named sometime in the past, the COM:PCP demands some evidence. --RAN (talk) 21:31, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Message from the uploader in the talkpage "This picture was taken several days before the bombardment of the Four Courts, Dublin (28‐30 June 1922) – q.v. – a matter of historical record. Hence, it is unquestionably over 100 years old. A Tineye search may have unearthed the "Irish Times" using this photo in the 1940s, but there is no evidence it ever owned the original or copyright thereof. It is submitted, therefore, that the image, ikely from a newspaper published in 1922, has been in the public domain for over 100 years. Regards Billsmith60 (talk) 10:06, 16 March 2023 (UTC)" Note, I am not disputing it was taken in 1922 nor am I disputing that it was published contemporaneously. Many newspapers covered the Irish Civil War. A lot of them were functionally anonymous only crediting a wire service or a photographic firm but some named photographers were also credited. I'm only doing due diligence on the provenance of this photograph and I am inclined towards keeping but I'd like to be sure this was anonymous rather than us guessing it was. - Uploader says this in the talk page for this DR "I can't seem to reply on the project page but am doing so here to note the latest comment about whoever took the photograph likely being anonymous. Certainly, I've been unable to determine its provenance but do hope it can be retained. If there is any tag or update it would be helpful for me to add to that file's rubric, please let me know. Deleted: Per nomination. As the photographer is unknown it is not clear if the image is in public domain. It is also not known if and when the image was first published. To keep an image per COM:EVID evidence is needed that an old image is in PD. This evidence is missing. Therefore the photo must be deleted. Per community voting of Commons:Village_pump/Copyright/Archive/2017/03#Cut-off_date_for_the_PD-old_template the photo can be undeleted safely 120 years after the image was made, which will be not later than 1922+121=2043.. --Ellywa (talk) 11:06, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
