not relevant. Was part of a batch upload of photos from Flickr. This is actually a photo of me but I don't think it's a suitable photo for Wikimedia Commons. EMsmile (talk) 19:43, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@EMsmile: do I understand correctly that this is a request for a courtesy deletion as the subject of the photo? Or are you requesting deletion on some other basis? - Jmabel ! talk 20:25, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what you mean by "courtesy deletion"? I just think photos like this clog up the cloud unnecessarily (and cause CO2 emissions there). If it's not useful for our photo collection on Commons then they should be deleted. In addition, the photo shows me so I think nobody else would mind if that photo was taken off-line. I think the photo would be a waste of space on Commons. EMsmile (talk) 20:29, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@EMsmile: what I mean by "courtesy deletion" is whether you, as the person depicted, are requesting the photo be removed because you dislike it, vs. a decision to be made with no regard to who the nominator is. There would -- at least potentially -- be two entirely different discussions to be had.
Commons appears to have three pictures of you as an individual: this one, File:SuSanA's 10th Anniversary (32410831361).jpg (which I see you have similarly nominated for deletion on the same grounds) and File:Elisabeth von Münch (3368260410).jpg (which you have not nominated). If this is simply because you prefer the latter to the other two, I for one would support getting rid of the first two as a courtesy to you.
If, on the other hand, you are not requesting this as a courtesy, the discussion should basically ignore that the request came from you and proceed exactly as if some random person had asserted that this image is not suitable for Commons, in which case you (or someone) would have to make the case of why it is outside of Commons' scope. - Jmabel ! talk 22:38, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking the time to respond and explain this. In order to make this not chew up more of our time than needed, I think this suggestion of yours is a good one: "If this is simply because you prefer the latter to the other two, I for one would support getting rid of the first two as a courtesy to you." But, if possible, I'd also like to see the other low-quality images deleted where I am visible in a group setting. On the page about Common's Scope it says there: "If the images are of demonstrably inferior quality, or add nothing educationally distinct to the stock of such images we hold already, they may fail the test of being realistically useful for an educational purpose." There are several photos that show me and colleagues in group settings which I think are rather pointless for Commons. I also think those team photos are not suitable. Basically any image that comes up when searching for my name - "Elisabeth von Muench" or "Elisabeth von Münch". But I don't want this to become a long drawn out process. If it goes against guidelines to delete those then I'll have to accept that.
With regards to storage space and associated CO2 emissions, I think this is a problem that will bite us one day in future if - as you say - these are always soft deletes and don't free up storage space. But I guess this discussion is probably taking place elsewhere already. EMsmile (talk) 08:39, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Delete support courtesy deletion of this and File:Elisabeth von Münch (3562046171).jpg, since we have File:Elisabeth von Münch (3368260410).jpg. - Jmabel ! talk 19:39, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also delete File:Elisabeth von Muench (GIZ, Germany) (7914431434).jpg. - Jmabel ! talk 23:25, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also delete File:Elisabeth von Münch twittering from the event (4958317792).jpg. Looks like this should have been a mass deletion request, since all are the same issue. - Jmabel ! talk 23:28, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
