Commons:Deletion requests/File:Der kleine Prinz.jpg
Image is still copyrighted. Provided Saint-Exupery is the author of the colored drawing, it becomes public-domain only on January 1, 2015. But even then, neither the uploader nor "Buch" will be the author. File needs to be deleted and can be undeleted on January 1, 2015. -- Túrelio (talk) 14:27, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
Same problem with:
- File:Rose 1 des kleinen Prinzen.jpg
- File:Rose 2 des kleinen Prinzen.jpg
- File:Rose 3 des kleinen Prinzen.jpg
- File:Rose 4 des kleinen Prinzen.jpg
- File:Rose 5 des kleinen Prinzen.jpg
- File:Rose 6 des kleinen Prinzen.jpg
Note: Images may still be protected in the U.S. until 2038. First publication of the work was in the U.S. in 1943; if publication was with copyright notice and the copyright was renewed, it's protected for 95 years after publication, see Commons:Hirtle chart. In most other places of the world, the works by Saint-Exupéry will become indeed public domain on January 1, 2015 - including France, I think, as the wartime copyright extensions for non-musical works were removed in 2007. - The wartime copyright extensions still apply for people who died in military service - and Saint-Exupery did, so this will only become PD in 2045. -- Liliana-60 (talk) 22:02, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
- Indeed, seems to be a case of Mort pour la France... so, not free in France before 2045, as you say. Gestumblindi (talk) 01:46, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Liliana-60: However, the French Wikipedia article fr:Mort pour la France states that there is a term of protection for works by authors who "died for France" of 88 years and 120 days (after the author's death?) if the work was published between 1921 and 1947, which seems to be applicable to this case. This would make it free in France as "early" as 2033. If that's correct, I think we can summarize: Saint-Exupéry's Little Prince is protected in France until 2033 (at least), possibly in the U.S. until 2038, but will be free in most other countries with a term of protection of 70 years p.m.a. from January 1, 2015 - but can't be hosted on Commons until it's free in both France and the U.S. Gestumblindi (talk) 19:59, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
