custom shading exceeds the threshold for originality --188.222.170.156 13:56, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, it does not. That is - sorry - nonsense... Chaddy (talk) 14:20, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
See Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Google wordmark.png, Commons:Deletion requests/File:Resident evil 3 nemesis logo.png to see why it's not nonsense. 188.222.170.156 15:04, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That´s copyright paranoia... Ok, then only German Wikipedia can profit from this HQ logo... Chaddy (talk) 16:01, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Delete The texture is enough to exceed the threshold. ZooFari 02:42, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • keep: ineligible textlogo: "originality" is an expression of creativity. Dirty shading is not innovative, has been done thousands of times before. This particular example goes not beyond the basic idea of dirty shading, there is no special creativity involved and therefore it is not an original design. --h-stt !? 07:57, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • You're saying that textures aren't copyrightable? So I can rip the textures for dirt, and water, and grass, from commercial video games and post them here? I can extract the snow textures from Bad Company 2 and use them in my own game? That texture artists don't actually exist? 188.222.170.156 22:23, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • I must concur with the IP's reasonings. The dirt texture adds creativity even if it doesn't appear to do so. ZooFari 22:27, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No, he didn´t say that textures aren´t copyrightable. But he said that this special one is not copyrightable. There is a difference... Chaddy (talk) 22:43, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not what I heard. ZooFari 23:23, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please refrain from pushing this question to the absurd. Of course there are textures and shadings that meet the en:threshold of originality. But as originality requires a "spark of creativity" (Rural vs. Feist), I'd like to raise doubts on the spark in this particular design. Can we have other opinions please? --h-stt !? 08:42, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted. Indeed the texture makes it eligible for copyright. Create a similar logo with your own texture and it should be fine (they cannot copyright all textures looking like this), but this particular one is copyrightable and copyrighted. –Tryphon 14:57, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
