PD1923 not possible and PD-old is not prooven at all. It's just 15 years from the given date to the 70years-border and without knowing the author it can't be said that he droped dead within 15 years after this publication. Hallo, As its name clearly suggests, L'Illustration (1843-1944) always highly valued pictures. Indeed it was the first French journal that published a photograph in 1891. So they were true professionals in the field of image. Whenever there was a copyright, it was carefully mentioned, with all the required details. So of course we always avoid these. But they also published lots of minor pictures made by anonymous people. They did not forget the credits, these were just not relevant in their own eyes.
