KRZu ochre
If would say that (KRZu ochre
) should be ochre crossing ochre, like (uKRZu
)... But I still don't know if that one should be (KRZu ochre+
) or (mKRZu ochre+
) (or something other yet). Right? YLSS (talk) 16:37, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- I’m doing the ochres right now. In principle the "m" should always be present when there are color names included (seems pleonasm, yess) — as also when there are color prefixes. The hanging "+" means that one of the colors is normalred (or blue or one of the greens, depending on the preffix next to "m"). -- Tuválkin ✉ 16:56, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

BTW, I guess you missed Category:Icons for railway descriptions/stations and stops/towers. YLSS (talk) 11:38, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hehe, thanks, your bold and accurate work is inspirin — that and the fact that Axpde seems finally to have accepted that BSicons can/should be categorized the same way as any other Commons’ medium. About towers: I think I fell asleep before I could get it going. -- Tuválkin ✉ 19:32, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
Bad cat move
[1]. Not all trams in Denver are in the Museum. Please restore that cat to this and other similar images. (It could be replaced only by Category:Trams in the Forney Transportation Museum, which would also replace the Trams in Denver cat). Thanks, --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 06:06, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
- I meant to add Category:Trams in Denver, not replace Category:Forney Transportation Museum with it — thanks for letting me know! I put the latter back and kept the former only for those photos showing what’s obviously a (former) Denver tram — as it says so on the livery. I also add Category:Forney Transportation Museum under the larger Category:Transport in Denver, Colorado, under which also goes Category:Trams in Denver. A new Category:Trams in the Forney Transportation Museum will have to be created sooner or later; its affiliation is trivial. Other cities with more trams and/or more media have their categorization trees more complete. Berlin, Milan, Lisbon, or Moscow — all good starting places. -- Tuválkin ✉ 03:42, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
Ditto for [2]. You have identified a location, but not the tram model, hence it is still unidentified. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 06:09, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
- Allow me to disagree: If all media showing trams not fully identified (down to fleet number, even!) were tagged with Category:Unidentified trams it would encompass many thousands of items, obscuring the most urgent cases. I suggest instead that what was done for Category:Lisbon trams with undiscernible number be extended to all categories. In this case Category:Unidentified trams in Denver is what should be created, to be categorized under both Category:Transport in Denver, Colorado and Category:Unidentified trams. -- Tuválkin ✉ 03:42, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Estranho...
Cps, EuTuga msg 20:25, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

PD-shape
Noticed this one: (exlZOLL
). If the Upload Wizard you mean is that extremely Javascript one, then I usually select "It's not my own work", where it is possible to enter a particular license you need. But since one has to fill all the fields each time anew (browsers seem to fail remembering previously entered items), I only use this one for uploading en masse; otherwise, I just enter the needed file name and use the "older" form. BHFq1 teal
Should this one: (BHFq1 teal
) rather be (BHFr+1 teal

Thanks for the advice
- I don't know how to "look out for any compression" and if I found it, would not know how to fix it.
- Not sure how to change all the GIFs to PNG or TIFF in some automated way. Is it just OK if I upload the GIFs.
I will do a wrapper category like you said. At the worst, we can just redo it. It's a Wiki so I won't break anything. TCO (talk) 02:33, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
- If it was 1st a JPG which was late converted yo GIF (big mistake) there will be tell tale artifacts: Areas that should be flat all-black or all-white will show a sprinkle of grey pixels here and there — see Template:BadJPEG.
- XnView is a great free tool for this and many other image management. If you upload as GIF, someone will some day convert to PNG, anyway, so don’t bother too much.

Hi Tuvalkin, how did you create this DR? Did you use the toolbox-script or did make in manually? I am asking because the resulting DR discussion page is completely irregular, which shouldn't have happening when using the script. --Túrelio (talk) 19:06, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

ÜWc# grey
AFAIK, Useddenim placed these four into Category:Icons for motorway descriptions/generic with purpose, since they are perfectly usable with e.g. (RP23+1
), as in en:Template:Railways in Bridgwater RDT & en:Template:Duckmanton Junction. (However, maybe some redirects with "RP2" root should be created and categorised instead.) YLSS (talk) 18:30, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
- Regular railway lines are 100px thick, while RP2 roads are 110px thick. Looks good enough with 20px icons, but it is but a hack. Proper RP2 corners should be created, and ÜWc icons should not be categorized as compatible with RP2, which they are not. -- Tuválkin ✉ 18:33, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
- You do realize that we're talking about a difference of 4/10 of 1 pixel on a x20x icon, don't you? Useddenim (talk) 03:46, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, I do. This hack is good for most wikipedias, not so good for :wp:nl. Still, it is not something we can say — that these are the corners for (
RP23+1
), by categorizing them. And don’t underrate the accuracy of human eye, also: Remember we have had many cases of misdrawn icons which looked slightly off even at 20px because the 500px original had something like 123.766549 instead of 125… I’m not saying don’t use them — I’m saying, don’t categorize them as RP2. -- Tuválkin ✉ 12:40, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

- I’m always careful, both with my comments and and with my uploads. If calling this ass an ass (burro, in Portuguese — means both a donkey and, metaphorically, an unastute person) is worth a warning from you, what’s the penaly for uploading a copyrighted file under false pertences causing seven wikipedias to be displaying it illegally for five years? -- Tuválkin ✉ 01:26, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Late reply about subpages
You asked: "Is there a way of listing all subpages of a given page?" The "hard" way is to go to Special:PrefixIndex, type in the "prefix" (in this case, "Personality rights/"), and choose the namespace ("Template"). This is equivalent to using the following link: Special:PrefixIndex/Template:Personality rights/. But now (and I don't know if this has changed since you asked the question), the user interface apparently automatically provides a "Subpages" link in the left margin (under "Toolbox") for most types of pages. You should see this if you visit Template:Personality rights. - dcljr (talk) 09:40, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

Gallery
Hi. I know you don't like the new gallery stuff I talked about on the village pump. However a lot of the other feedback has been positive, so I've now gone ahead and created an RFC in an attempt to gather consensus to change the default gallery type (Commons:Requests_for_comment/Changing_default_gallery_mode). I thought I'd leave you a note, as I want to make sure it doesn't appear I'm trying to sneak something by you, or anything like that. Bawolff (talk) 16:21, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
- This is not about sneaking. I am sure you mean no harm, and thanks for the heads up. However, your eye-candy will break any attempt at serious use of category view and concomitantly of Cat-a-Lot. That will mean even more uncategorized items — lets see if that is enough to shove back your “improvement” for category view; recent trends (VE, etc.) suggest it wont. I hope I’m wrong and you will never look back to contemplate the day you single-handedly caused Commons to go from a structured repository of media into an unusable pile of trash. -- Tuválkin ✉ 17:00, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
File:V. Postoja, Krizna pout Stevanovci.JPG
Hi, thank you for the crop of File:V. Postoja, Krizna pout Stevanovci.JPG. However, it seems that it would be better to keep the frame: it is of historical value and contains an inscription. --Eleassar (t/p) 07:47, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
- I avoided the frame because it is not complete in the original image (the cross is missing — or that’s a separate object?) and besides it is three-dimensional, makinging it hard to “correct” the perspective. So I worked on the flat part only, but uploaded it as a separate file to preserve the three-dimensional object information. -- Tuválkin ✉ 08:11, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, the new file is very useful and appreciated in any case. Nonetheless, I hope the uploader will take another photo with a better perspective and the full cross some day. --Eleassar (t/p) 09:32, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
No description but subject known
I noticed Commons:Undeletion_requests/Current_requests#File:223661 101503sn.jpg, where you said "Description (name of the musician depicted) was given in the discussion." The undeletion request was closed and I was going to complain, but I cannot find "the discussion" where the name was given. In the DR there was no discussion. --LPfi (talk) 17:58, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
- The discussion I meant is here: Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_of_User:Salamjawed. Apparently the name of the band is Salam Jawed. -- Tuválkin ✉ 23:22, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
- OK. As there are two deletion requests involved, the undeletion request was closed before a link to the discussion was given etcetera, I think this needs more time I am willing to use on it, especially as I have no expertise. I still suppose the "blatantly out of scope" was blatantly ignorant and presumptuous (and the "DR was according to the policies" at least somewhat so). I will probably support undeletion if I happen to notice further discussion. --LPfi (talk) 07:41, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
- Sound wise, and I agree on all accounts. Sadly I have no knowledge about music in Afghanistan, other that what I managed to learn while investigating these files. -- Tuválkin ✉ 08:35, 16 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello in this moment i feel very confused
¿How are you Tuvalkin?... I prefer speak in Spanish... NO ENTENDÍ.
21:52, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- (Desculpa ter-te partido a posta.)

Hey Tuvalkin, Feliz Natal!

re: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Remove_border/en&oldid=112696340&diff=prev
I'm surprised you felt like the previous state of the template was better formatted, and easier to read, also you mentioned that i removed important text, which I did not, rather I rewrote it for clarity and rearranged the sections so it was easier to read. The current version does not read in a natural way, and has too much text, while I understand there is some complexity involved, a block of text that big will just be ignored by many users, editing for clarity would really help.
Jaredzimmerman (WMF) (talk) 05:34, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
- The part you erased is very important — that’s not rewriting for clarity, that’s throwing stuff away: If the current version is unclear, lets clarify it, but lets not erase important caveats that were added through years of experience with this template. Any change, such as the one you tried to push, should be discussed in the talk page first.
- The
SMALL
tag makes the font smaller but keeps the leading at normal height (thanks to your employer’s insisting on pushing Vector down our throats), making the text harder to read (“fine print”) without making the box more compact. - Finally, your argument that something will be «ignored by many users», while used to justify all kinds of dumbing down, is irrelevant here, as this warning is supposed to attract the attention of involved and careful users: Removing borders can be a serious job, and whoever doesn’t want to read the whole deal about it is probably not cut (pun not intentional) to the task.

I removed Category:Things named after oaks, which you recently added. It's named from Oakes Avenue, which in turn is named after Thomas Fletcher Oakes. Perhaps his surname came from the tree, but saying the name of the retirement home does is quite a stretch. - Jmabel ! talk 16:15, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi! Well, you can guess how I ended here. Trying to categorize a Lisbon street named after a guy whose surname means oak in Portuguese — and I got carried away. Ideally, of course, this category about a retirement home will/should be categorized under Category:things named after Oakes Avenue (Everett, Washington), in turn categorized under Category:Oakes Avenue (Everett, Washington), in turn categorized under Category:Things named after Thomas Fletcher Oakes, in turn categorized under Category:Thomas Fletcher Oakes, in turn categorized under Category:Oakes (surname), in turn categorized under Category:Things named after oaks. But there are gaps in this breadcrumb trail, of course. -- Tuválkin ✉ 16:22, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- But we don't even know for sure that Thomas Fletcher Oakes' name came from the tree, rather than being (for example) an anglicization of the German (sometimes Jewish) name "Ochs", or who knows what else. - Jmabel ! talk 23:00, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Fair point. It should be researched, and probably not too hard to look up. Any legitimate relationship can be the base for categorization, while surely any spurious one should not. -- Tuválkin ✉ 01:21, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Two categories!
hi. what u think about this two categories: Category:Children not at home in nights and Category:People taking bought stuff to home . i think will be delete.--Sonia Sevilla (talk) 11:25, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hello, and sorry I didn’t reply before. Sometimes categories are more useful than they seem at first time. If you want my opinion, a good way to keep your categories from being deteled hastily by others is to make sure that:
- The new category is not a duplicate of another already existing one, with a slightly different name.
- The new category name is correct English (and also any other language it may include).
- The new category name matches the wording used by similar categories.
- There is content for any new category you create — not only the one or few images you created the new category for. (F.i., when I created Category:Reading in bed I need it for this image, but I searched a couple dozen more and categorized them with the new category, too.)
- The new category is linked to others, both as child and parent: Nothing says more that a new category is useful than its integration in the existing multi-tree structure, even if it doesn’t contain many media items.
(…)
- Meanwhile I notice that both Category:Children not at home in nights and Category:People taking bought stuff to home were created and not deleted, so congratulations! I’d still advise you to go through the topics above, though. Good categorization and good categories is one of the most important aspects of curating — without it Commons would be a scarcely usable heap of files. -- Tuválkin ✉ 01:38, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

- You’re right, Infrogmation. Most of the items currently (still) at Category:Lake houses were added not by design but via unadverted use of the "all" feature in Cat-a-lot, due probably to not enough coffee. - I found a similar problem with the three files in Category:Lake Bridenthal house (Wymore, Nebraska); in that case, "Lake" was the builder's given name. When I created the category, I included a note to that effect, with a link to the information source, in the hope that it'd keep this sort of thing from happening. Unfortunately... I appreciate the creation of subcategories per country. However the sort parameter is often left alone. For example: 2008 in tram transport|France --> 2008 in tram transport in France|France. Saluton.

Mi planas movi tion al nova, kreota subkategorio Unidentified trams in Denmark, aŭ eble eĉ Unidentified trams in Århus (aŭ eĉ Unidentified trams trailers in Århus, se indos!), same kiel pri aliaj, nune ŝveliĝantaj kategorioj. Trams in Denmark
Hello Tuvalkin
I have noticed, that you have been working with categories for Danish trams. Generally it looks fine, but I must say that Category:Trams in Skælskør simply doesn't make sense. Skælskør never had regular tram transport, and the little club Omstigningsklubben only ended up there, because there was an old empty locomotive depot at the railway station. The trams themselves all came from Copenhagen and as such all had trolley pole, not pantographs. However there was never any overhead wire on the old harbor railway they used, so they used batteries instead.
Generally speaking, only Copenhagen, Odense and Aarhus (known as Århus 1948-2010) is considered as (former) tramway cities in Denmark. Of course Skælskør is a city as well, but the trams there was only heritage trams. Today both trams and tracks are gone from Skælskør. Omstigningsklubben still exist, but the trams now belongs to Sporvejsmuseet Skjoldenæsholm. The three bogie cars are in depot for an unseen future, but tram 267 is under restoration.

- When I created Category:Trams in Skælskør, I noticed that its “natural” contents match what was in Category:Omstigningsklubben; as you say, Skælskør is in Denmark, and it is neither Copenhagen, nor Odense, nor Århus. The question you raise, and rightly so, can be addressed by adequately categorizing Category:Trams in Skælskør as a museum / enthusiast / touristic operation, not as a commuter transit service. The club’s rolling stock can be simply categorized as second-hand from Copenhagen (thanks for correction about the collection device!) while individual cars can be categorized under their individual categories as Copenhagen rolling stock, once those are created. -- Tuválkin ✉ 19:38, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
Also a word about Category:Unidentified trams in Denmark. All the pictures are of the same type of motorcar and trailer in Aarhus. In 1944 during the German occupation of Denmark all trams except two trailers was destroyed in a fire set on by German henchmen. In 1945 some of the trams were rebuild and later new was delivered, but they all got the same design, that in the pictures. They all had two axles, but they didn't had any special name. After all, there was only that type. --Dannebrog Spy (talk) 21:52, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- I marked as Category:Unidentified trams in Denmark those Århus trams (mostly trailers, but also a few motorcars) whose fleet numbers cannot be seen on the photos. I plan to move those to something like Category:Århus trams with undiscernible number — they are unidentified and, in practice, using only those photos, unidentifiable. That categorization marks those items on photos for which a subcategorization under Category:Århus trams by fleet number (to be created) was attempted, not just overlooked.
- Concerning the fleet series of Århus rolling stock, I trust that you or other more learned will fill in the missing data. So far I only know that there’s (at least) two series — the trailers and the motorcars, both single-truck, yellow, and second-hand from Copenhagen. Categories reflecting that will be created to bag the single number categories such as Category:Århus tram 18 etc.
- The problem with Category:Trams in Skælskør is, that one could get the idea, that there was other tramways in Skælskør than the club, despite it never being the case. It was simply just a museum tramway and should be categorized at such regardless of place. Category:National Tramway Museum isn't placed in Tram in Crich either, because there was never any other tramways in the village of Crich.
- Regarding the trams from the Aarhus I wasn't aware that is was the numbers of them which was unidentified. Creating categories for the types should be easy enough. I recalled that people now tends to simply call them Aarhus cars (Aarhusvogne in Danish), when not involving the pre war cars. But neither the pre war or the post war cars was the second hand from Copenhagen. The post war cars was all build for Aarhus. But they was clearly modeled after the trams that Copenhagen got at the same time like the preserved motorcar 470 and trailer 1065. --Dannebrog Spy (talk) 22:12, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
Help
The file "Mapa esquemático METROMED 2013.svg" has been marked for deletion. I was thinking with the modifications will be enough. I have no idea how to create an image. Can you told about some tools?
By the way I am waiting for the website's response to my permission request to use that modificated image. If I get it, which is the next step?
Thank you :D

Hi, I noticed you have set up User:MiszaBot to archive your talk page. Unfortunately, the bot has stopped working, and given how its operator is inactive, it is unclear when/if this will fixed. For the time being, I have volunteered to operate a MiszaBot clone (running the exact same code). With that said, your input would be appreciated at Commons:Bots/Requests/ArchiveBot 1. Martin de Bataille
According to the french article fr:Jean-Baptiste Martin (peintre) the painter died in 1735, so he could not have painted it. "Martin de Bataille" is not his real name, but an alias because he painted a lot of battles (Bataille). He has a brother fr:Pierre-Denis Martin (1663-1742). Buy the way the pictures are not exactly the same. A boat is added on the rigth and it is cropped. My guess is that his brother copied the painting and added some minor changes. Do you still need this one? It's kinda bad drawn... And there's a big question how to name these "b" icons: the straight lines can be here or there... YLSS (talk) 08:03, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
- YLSS, I corrected the SVG code to look better in any rendering. Yes, I think it is a needed proof of concept, especially to compare (
bvABZg+r-ABZg+l
) with (vABZg+r-ABZg+l
), and maybe to make a case of one-and-half wide (750 px) icons. As for the name, while I agree with you thatb
-width icon names are not an easy thing, I think that this one is correct (and that names like (bvWSL-BS2+r
) are not…), and would gladly discuss it that matter at Talk:BSicon/Renaming. -- Tuválkin ✉ 04:12, 9 May 2014 (UTC)- And how are you planning to differentiate between the similar cases where the separation between the lines is not 250px but 500px or 750px? (No, I'm ready to discuss that in a centalized way... I'm too scared of the consequences... I would be pretty happy with , with the geometry of (
v-STR+r
) modified to circular arcs.) YLSS (talk) 07:30, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
