Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which information may be missing. Thank you.

Textlogo

Hi. Yeah, textlogo is meant for very simple shapes and text. I don't think that it quite qualifies, what with the background and stylised text. Permission from the creator would be good. Is it actually within scope though? -mattbuck (Talk) 16:08, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Your account will be renamed

Hello,

The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.

Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Springnuts. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Springnuts~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.

Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.

Speedy deleting, and undeleting

Hello, Springnuts! I noticed your deletion request at File:Junk Yacht Boleh ashore at Birham Pool 2019.jpg and have a couple of observations. First, to delete a file you have recently uploaded (within a week) you can tag it for “speedy deletion“ with {{SD|G7}}—see COM:CSD. A regular deletion request requires discussion and a formal closing, which takes much longer. (For future reference, not this request—once a DR has started it should run its course.) Second, once you have the permissions in order, rather than re-upload the file you can request its restoration at COM:UNDEL, which will save you from having to recreate the description &c. (and avoid adding redundant data to the servers).—Odysseus1479 (talk) 19:57, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
