Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and or licensing of this particular file. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. --- See the talk there, please! --Roxanna 08:27, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:21, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons does not accept fair use content.
We do this because Commons is a shared media repository. Downstream wikis have different policies based on local laws. Uses that are acceptable under US law, for example, may not be acceptable in many other countries with more restrictive rules. In addition, fair use is not compatible with our aim as a collection of freely distributable media files. Therefore, Commons cannot legally rely on fair use provisions. Non-free content that may be used with reference to fair use may be uploaded locally if your project allows this.

File:Syrian troops at Golan front 1973.jpg
[edit]The picture is of an Israeli artillery piece - an M107 self propelled gun. Could you correct the caption, as well as provide a verifiable source for the image? 24.23.193.232 17:40, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, yes, now when you are telling ist, I see also the uniforms are more Israeli than Syrian. I did not check it clearly before, I took it from The Online Museum of Syrian History, so I simply thought they are Syrian troops. The source I mentioned correctly long before, follow the link (but sometimes the website has technical problems, so be patient). --Roxanna (talk) 17:58, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
"Free for Wikipedia only" would mean that the file would have to be instantly deleted from Wikimedia Commons, as being incompatible with Commons licensing terms. On the other hand, you can't unilaterally retroactively withdraw rights which you previously granted under a CC-BY-SA3.0 license. You can nominate the image for deletion, but do not add "Free for Wikipedia only" wording which is incompatible with its existence here... AnonMoos (talk) 14:40, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, I see. I will remove "only" ;-) --Roxanna (talk) 14:47, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- I do not intend to nominate anything for deletion ;-) But please do not remove |Author=Roxanna Best regards --Roxanna (talk) 15:13, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, many will interpret "Free for Wikipedia" as being just as bad. I reverted the image description pages to their state immediately before you added "Free for Wikipedia only". Also, do not "clean up" licensing by removing GFDL license templates, since that's another legally incorrect unilateral withdrawal of rights which you previously "irrevocably" granted. AnonMoos (talk) 16:38, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- Alright, you can substitute "free for wikipedia" with "see below" or whatever but please do not delete the link to the author --Roxanna (talk) 16:42, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Tibet
[edit]Please stop edit-warring over the map. If you want to change the border, I suggest you open a wider discussion somewhere, or at very least provide a source claiming that Kham was under KMT control throughout the 1930s and 1940s (here's a hint: they weren't). And if you insist on changing the border, please stop using the low-quality edit you keep inserting. Use the same style as the rest of the map. Parsecboy (talk) 00:36, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
- Bullshit. Of course they were not under KMT-control, but more oder less under control of warlords which were more or less KMT-allies. In fact it was not under control of the Lhasa administration. This so-called "East Tibet" did not came under Tibetian administration before 1965; to insist the opposite means to establish a POV-lengend of Tibetian nationalists and revionists. I have a few historical atlases who clearly show it, even two of English origins. I will try to repair the correct version of the map when I have enough time and knowlegde in handling such kind of maps. Until then please do not continue to discuss here on my talk-site, please only use the map-talk-site instead. --Roxanna (talk) 06:08, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

First, its great that you've uploaded this file (I really mean it), however, it is missing some information... For instance, the Iraqi Ba'ath movement had regional commands in Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Syria, Kuwait and Oman.. Since I don't know how to fix this, i'm asking you, the uploader.. Anyhow, thanks for the upload :) --Trust Is All You Need (talk) 21:02, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I also red all these informations in the english wikipedia about these smaller Baath daughters, however I have doubts if they really did exist (for example in Egypt). Some others were founded after 2003 (Tunisia). In Oman, the Baath supported PFLOAG rebels (a pro-baathist movement, but not Baathists, therefore only black star for military involvement) but I have not yet heard that Iraq supported any Omani Baath party. And the Baath party in Kuwait really was active before 1990 and after 1991? I am very interested in that topic and if you can bring any sources I can easily add some more green stars in other countries. Best regards. --Roxanna (talk) 22:19, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
By the way, the original idea for that map was to replace the wrong maps about a "Greater Iraq". Such a Greater Iraq is bullshit and anti-iraqi propaganda, a concept with that name never did exist. Meanwhile this map even has a Syrian brother. --Roxanna (talk) 22:19, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
- a Ba'ath party was established in Tunisia before 2003, it was established in the 1960s, but was forced underground due to governmental oppression (which is the story of all Ba'ath regional organizations really)... Saddam Hussein was educated at the Egyptian Ba'athist branch, so that one did exist... There did exists Ba'athist branches in Saudi, Yemen, Kuwait, Algeria and Oman, how large they are now, or how large they were, is another discussion ... They were probably minuscule, but they existed. :) --Trust Is All You Need (talk) 12:02, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
Well, let me explain the problem in an other way. Imagine I would collect half a dozen of arab commiltones and immigrants around me and found the Arab Socialist Baath Party in Germany, officially register it in any local authority office and create an "oficial" website, too. You, me and the six others would know it is just a fake, however, some others could say such a party would really exist. You see just to claim there is a party does not make a party really existing. I do not want to say that the Tunisian Baath party is or was just a fake, however a few circumstances make me doubt to believe this and other regional Baath parties were more than just a phantom. As you know the Syrian and the Iraqi branch established National Commands. These national commands had official representives of the regional Baath parties. That´s why, for example, a Saudi Arabian guy represented tha Saudi Arabian Baath Party although that Saudi Arabian Baath party was not much more than a phantom. However, this Saudi Arabian Baath party is officially recognized by the others. On the other hand, neither the Syrian nor the Iraqi branch ever mentioned a Tunisian Baath party before 2011. The same non-representance you have with the Algeria, for example. About Egypt you make a mistake: Saddam Hussein was among Baathists in Egypt, yes, however, these Baathists came from Syria and it was during the time when Egypt and Syria formed the union state 1958-61. During that time the Baath party was officially abolished and after the rift of 1961 Nasser did not allow any Baath activities in Egypt anymore. --Roxanna (talk) 19:24, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
- I will add all other regional baath parties as soon as I have any good prove that these parties did really exist. Such a prove would be an essay of any neutral orientalist or middle east expert, an official parties register of the states or when Syria's/Iraq's Baathist mentioned their Tunisian, Algerian.... brother/sister parties anyway. Before I can`t do that. --Roxanna (talk) 19:24, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
- Yes they did.... For instance, Ahmed Choutri from Algeria was a member of the Iraqi National Command... And the Ba'ath Party in Tunisia, the one established in the 1980s, was funded by the Iraqis, but was oppressed. Just because they were oppressed and miniscule doesn't mean they don't exist... I have more examples, but all of these branches existed, but the majority of them were very small. --Trust Is All You Need (talk) 11:19, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
- Great. So I can make more green starts as soon as you can provide me with the sources for these informations about the Algerian and Tunisian Baath. Best regards. --Roxanna (talk) 18:42, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
- .:::Just read this and this article on English Wikipedia... Everything is referenced ... --Trust Is All You Need (talk) 10:26, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
No, no, no! One of the essential rules in Wikipedia is: Wikipedia is not a prove for wikipedia. What English wikipedia writes is not automatically a prove, it needs sources and citations, too. Trust is not enough. The references you mention are not acceptable. For example: Pro-Iraqi Tunisian Baath... the only sources are a few links - two of them are dead, are others are about the today's party without mentioning any year in the 1950s. What I need are reputable proves! Proves that show these parties did already exist before 2003. By the way, do you really think I have not yet found these English wikipedia articles long before? --Roxanna (talk) 18:22, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
- You mentioned an Algerian in the pro-Iraqi National Command. Great. I guess you have this information from any book where the members of the National Command are listed. So you have author, title and page of this book? --Roxanna (talk) 18:22, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
Something general about this map to remember: The first and main intention behind this map was to replace this Greater Iraq bullshit. Further I wanted to show that their are not only territorial claims but also military involvement, economic ties and ideological expansion. For the ideological expansion I show the Baath daughters allover the Arab world. For the ecomic ties I show ACC and ACM. Of course, same for the Baath parties you could critizise that the ACM members are not complete, because after 1977 a few more joined the ACM. But after 1977/79 ACM became unimportant and so these later members are not worth to mention. Or about armed involvemnet I could also add Somalia if I have already added Eritrea. And now back to the problem, additional stars for Baath party I will add only if I have reputable proves that these parties did really exist before 2003 and were really active anyway. --Roxanna (talk) 21:01, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Mehraniran.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Roxanna. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Roxanna~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,

File:Syrian Baath Logo.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Category:Saddam_Hussein_in_propagandistic_art has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. Map of participants in WWII
[edit]Hi Roxanna, I came across this map https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Map_of_participants_in_World_War_II.png
The map presents fascist Independent State of Croatia and Albania (with Italy as a puppet master) to be Allied forces. Could you please double check and fix the issue? Sadkσ (talk is cheap) 01:12, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
- This is not my map, therefore I have corrected the original author's name now. Best regards --Roxanna (talk) 19:17, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Annales Carinthiae page 1085.jpg.
Thank you. |
