India
Ahh, sorry, I was messing around and moved it... So, that was a big mistake. However, policy is that we should create articles under their native names when possible... which is why Vladimir Ilyich Lenin is Владимир Ильич Ленин. I was looking at the title of the page linked from en:India in Hindi and that was the title and changed it... I don't know what I changed it to (which goes back to me being stupid) but titles are supposed to be in native language... as for categories, they are all in English since they cannot be in multiple languages with coherent redirects... this is a known flaw of the software and something we must deal with. But, I don't know what I changed it to... but we do agree it (general) should be in native language? You're an admin no? please clarify (and sorry)
I'm thinking India was a bad page to experiment with considering the number of languages and ancient names to deal with... gren 11:30, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Nope, I have no problem with reverting... and I'm not sure what should be done with countries like India for titles... but, I think it would be good for better policy clarification... and also so we don't make this place too anglo-centric. gren 03:18, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Indian maps
Hi, Nichalp, Thanks for your maps (Image:Indiatemperaturetemp.png, Image:India-naturalhazards-map.png, Image:India-geology-map.png...) but could you please do them in a greater size like Image:Indiahills.png for instance, even bigger would be nice) and give a version without any text so we can adapt them in all the languages.
Many thanks in advance.

Your aerial photo of Mumbai
Wow! That's fantastic! Honestly, that's one of the most beautiful aerial photos I've ever seen! My main purposes for taking aerial photos of towns was to create pictures for small towns where it's unlikely that Wikipedians live and which don't have a picturesque skyline. I have regular (ground) photos of Cincinnati, Newark, New York, and some others, so I figured they didn't need aerial pics. But your photo demonstrates that a good aerial photo is a great enhancement for any city article. I hope you add it to the article for Mumbai. I think it could easily be a featured image. --Tysto 22:11, 11 July 2005 (UTC)
Goa map
How did you got the goa state map, its nice. Did you scan from standard maps and edited them? Just thinking of having similar one for Karnataka. thank u, -Shivu 03:11, 14 July 2005 (UTC)
Viraat
I see you have done a great work procuring pictures for wikipedia. But the picture Image:INS-Viraat.jpg is of poor quality. The ship is barely visible. I will be removing the picture from the article page. --24.30.75.0 06:57, 18 July 2005 (UTC)
- I know, Its a badly scanned image. I had just put it up if needed. Nichalp 08:34, July 18, 2005 (UTC)
Featured pic?
Can you put Image:Sanchi2.jpg for featured picture status in commons? Nichalp 15 septembre 2005 à 12:37 (CEST)
- How to do this ? Nataraja 11:05, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
Gururinpochen.jpg
Hi - Since you took the picture Gururinpochen.jpg that I noticed on en.wikipedia.org, I was wondering if you had a higher-res version of the image that could be zoomed in. It looks like those are people on the scaffolding and it would be great if something was in the picture that would indicate scale. Currently it's not possible to tell how big the statue is from the photo. Thanks - 24.127.110.79 04:18, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
- yeah, I have a higher resolution, I'll try and upload it within two or three days. PS those black spots in the sky are flying hawks. Nichalp 05:29, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
Cricket ground svg
Was trying to translate stuff to Kannada on the image. But somehow Kannada won't show on SVG. Had to export it to PNG. Check: http://kn.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Cricket_field_parts_kn.png , http://kn.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Cricket_field_parts_kn.svg .
P.S: Leave replies on Kannada Wiki user page of mine --HPNadig 13:56, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:EmblemofIndia-small.png
Thanks for uploading Image:EmblemofIndia-small.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. It's already been drawn. Just look within Image:Naval Ensign of India.svg. It's there. Denelson83 14:52, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Hi Nick!
I've been a lot more active over here lately... Maps and history certainly go together!
How do you transwiki a http link beginning: [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php (there are several 'Edit-Action' links on my talk header, I'd just ported in ('Movin into the 'new' digs!<g>) and would like to access the same files over at wikiP.
I'm sure you'll be able to help with other matters too. For starters, how about a link to 'Admins' here, and any key organizational links you think I should know. Hmmm... I guess I can see what the local equivilent of a {{Welcome}} template has to offer!
(grumble, grumble, more reading... is not doing!)
We've been having 'Monsoons' this spring, and the sun is finally back, so I'm off to gardening and yardwork.
Best regards! // FrankB 15:21, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
Commons-l subscription
Hello Nichalp,
as per Commons talk:Administrators, I am asking all admins to subscribe to commons-l, a mailing list for Wikimedia Commons policy and project discussion. Since many admins are only on Commons infrequently, this is a good way to alert people about important happenings. The mailing list is nominally multilingual, but predominantly English.
If you are already subscribed to commons-l, I apologize for bothering you, and you are free to ignore this message. If you don't want to use your regular e-mail account, feel free to leave me a message, and I can send you a GMail invite. Traffic on the mailing list is relatively low, and we do not expect admins to read all messages to the list, but it would be nice if you could check on it at least every few weeks. Thanks for your time,--Eloquence 23:07, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- Done so. Incidently I had logged on to commons to check on a file uploaded by you. Nichalp 14:07, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Admin news
Hello,
If you consent for statistics to be published about your actions as an administrator, please sign here: Commons:Administrator permission for statistics. (I expect that most people will not have a problem with it unless you are especially concerned with privacy.)
Also, please be aware that we now have a Commons:Administrators' noticeboard. Please put it on your watchlist, if you haven't already!

New image
Hi, I am trying to upload new image Image:Vijayanagara-empire.svg using inkspace, but for some reason, it is not showing complete India. Could you help me why that is? I am new to mapmaking. Mlpkr 16:35, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Image deletion warning | Image:Fort_St._George,_Chennai.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

Hey Stranger
Are you still working railways and such? Is there an overall categorization scheme for such by region, country, etc. that we can refer to? We've been setting up a new heirachial organized map category structure, and I've stumbled over Category:New York Central Railroad which DOES NOT belong under maps, nor under New York City. See this question if you need clarification. Go ahead and answer on Dave's page if you have a lead for us. // FrankB 01:14, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
India states map
I have reverted an earlier reversion you had made to Image:India-states-numbered.svg for reasons outlined here. Leave me a message if there is any problem with the change (this is my first edit on commons). Thanks. Abecedare 00:45, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
Sorry for tagging
- Oops, you are perfectly right, I checked that again and I'm deeply sorry! I try to do better next time and I hope you will not be toooooo mad!? Thanks for reverting my mistake! (Copy from my talk page to make sure, you read it) --Hedwig in Washington 23:14, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Nichal, this image is of Ahmedabad's Power Plant in Sabarmati and not a mill. I have changed the description accordingly, hope you don't mind. I also suggest you upload it again using a correct file name to avoid confusion. --Spundun 19:33, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- Sure, I'll have a look. Nichalp 03:22, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Good picture
I know that i am being lazy in asking this question directly to you. But I would like to know if there is a concept of good pictures, or do we only have featured pics. If we do have good pics, will it qualify. Thanks.--nids 19:44, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Re : Amazing maps
Hi Nichalp.
Thanks for supporting my work on the maps.
Yes, all of them are made with Inkscape, a wonderful tool. Since some months I use free NASA DEM data which have a very good accuracy, edit the tiles in a GIS software, a little process in a bitmap editor, and then vectorize the whole in Inkscape. Additional data come mainly from the Demis source, really practical.
The whole stuff is not really difficult but needs time in order to get a clean and accurate map, specially the rivers and roads which are the most boring to draw. Sting 01:54, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Image:Phases-of-Venus2.svg
I made a modified version of your image phases of Venus which is here w:Image:Phases-of-Venus2.svg I think it's important to show that Venus is much smaller when full. The other less important change is to match its apparent color - white - either when viewed by the naked eye or through a telescope. Please let me know what you think. Administrative notice
Dear Nichalp/Archive 1. I am writing to you to inform you that because of inactivity, you may lose your adminship on Commons.
Commons has a new policy on admin activity, Commons:Administrators/De-adminship, taken into use on June 13, 2007 (after a two-week poll on the proposed policy's talk page).
If you want to keep your adminship, you have to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days. Note that if you don't make 5 admin actions in the following 5 months, you will then lose the adminship anyways.
Thank you,
