Flickypedia soft launch and a huge thank you

[edit]

Dear fellow Commons photographer,

I hope this message finds you well. As you might already know, the Flickr Foundation has been busy creating a new Flickr-to-Commons bridge (“Flickypedia”) this year. After a successful demo at the GLAM Wiki Conference in Montevideo, the Flickr Foundation team is now inviting all members of the Commons Photographers User Group to be the first to review their alpha, reporting any technical issues or other feedback via the Flickypedia project talk page.

At the same time, this message is an opportunity for me to thank you for your trust and support over the past couple of years. Since 2017, we've grown into being one of the largest user groups in the Wikimedia universe. I've tremendously enjoyed interacting with all of our members when it came to joint photowalks at Wikimanias, virtual Zoom meetings where we covered a wide variety of photography topics, as well as our annual “Most memorable shot of the year”, among many other events. As I'm not running for an official position in our current board election, this will be my last message on behalf of the user group to you. Thanks for all the happy moments we shared together over the years! I hope you'll continue creating free images for the millions of people we serve through Wikipedia and Commons.

All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 19:36, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

the distinction is...

Guildford Road railway bridge, Mount Lawley as used at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Guildford_Road_railway_bridge,_Mount_Lawley,_Western_Australia,_October_2023_02.jpg I see your point - the text should have had Guildford Road railway bridge... I think the more accurate item should be (3 August 1935). "MOTORING TOPICS.". Norseman Advertiser I, (29): 6. Retrieved on 28 January 2024. photo and all... Please feel free to change things if it still doesnt make sense to you... JarrahTree (talk) 11:51, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Paynes Find images

[edit]

Hi Gnangarra, I'm a little curious as to why you reverted my move of your Paynes Find images from Category:2023 in Western Australia to Category:September 2022 in Western Australia. According to the meta data and the date in the summary, they are from September 2022. The instruction for the date categories seem pretty clear, I quote Images/pictures taken in Western Australia during September 2022. Note this is not the date of the upload, nor the date a photo was scanned. So, anything taken in September 2022 should be in the September 2022 category, even if uploaded a year later, in September 2023. Unless the data stamp on your camera is wrong, which is of course possible, and they are from September 2023, in which case they should probably be in Category:September 2023 in Western Australia. Calistemon (talk) 06:34, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

the meta data date was wrong, the file name date is the correct one I did that run in 2023. Gnangarra 07:03, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, that clears it up. Calistemon (talk) 07:57, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
fixed, added note to date field for others who may follow in the future. Gnangarra 09:32, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Its a bit of a pain when this happens. I generally forget to change the time on my camera when I'm in another time zone so the time, and sometimes the date are out on my European pictures! Calistemon (talk) 12:30, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Letter from Selena at the Village Pump

[edit]

Hi Gnangarra, I hope you're fine. Since you participated at the Commons meeting at Wikimania, I wanted to flag a potentially interesting discussion at the Village Pump, started by Selena Deckelmann about finding a better way of supporting Commons. Maybe you can consider, if you have time, to share your thoughts? Thanks in advance! Sannita (WMF) (talk) 14:18, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Momimariani1962

[edit]

Hi, we have a problem with User:Momimariani1962. Since you have already intervened regarding his possible or probable copyviol, I am still here begging you to make it clear once and for all that he cannot disregard what he has been told over and over again. I have also warned a fellow admin on it.wiki, who is also an admin here unlike me, to monitor the situation, also because he works in such a niche sector that it is difficult to jump out of the way, in fact I only noticed it because he added a couple of images of a church in the area where I live. Thank you for your attention. @Ruthven: @Jaqen: Threecharlie (talk) 20:36, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Threecharlie, what is your problem?
Threecharlie (talk) 19:05, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
this will need to go to the Admin notice board user problems, sorry dont have the time to fix this today it needs some indepth attention Gnangarra 04:35, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
