User talk:Demonstah~commonswiki
Our first steps tour and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki—it is really easy. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel irc:wikimedia-commons #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

(P.S. Would you like to provide feedback on this message?) |
File:Camp_Lawrence_Logo.gif has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

- I saw your request for help at the deletion request — please note that the only reason I've sought to have it deleted is the copyright issue; I'm happy to try to help you get that problem solved. The copyright holder (the camp) needs to provide proof that this logo is licensed the way you say it is. The easiest way is (1) find someone who has the authority to release the copyright of this image, (2) have them write up a permissions statement saying that they own the copyright and that they permit it to be released under the copyright licenses you've selected (an example is included at the bottom of Commons:Email templates, but those ones are long and detailed; it would be sufficient to say "As the copyright holder of http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Camp_Lawrence_Logo.gif, I hereby release it under the terms of the GFDL and the cc-by-sa-3.0 licenses"), and (3) have them send the email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Two related comments — (1) The email needs to come from a recognised address [they shouldn't send it from just any address], so it would be best to have them send it from campinfo@mvymca.org or another email address that's posted on the website; and (2) There's a help page on this subject, entitled COM:OTRS; go there if you want to read a more detailed explanation of the process. Finally, please know that you can ask me for help at any time; simply go to User talk:Nyttend and tell me about the issue you're facing. I'm sorry that we have to go through all this paperwork; it's simply that the touchy legal nature of copyright means that we have to be especially careful with it, in order to ensure that everyone using images here at Commons is doing so in accord with the law. Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Demonstah. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Demonstah~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
