Image Tagging Image:Pristina4.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Pristina4.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which information may be missing. Thank you.

Kosovo
[edit]Because, the hell, we use the native names here when it's possible. I know this is a disputed country/region and maybe I should have waited longer. But maybe you know better, what are the correct native names of Kosovo (if these are wrong)? Aaker (talk) 15:53, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Please take your Image:Europe location KOS.png dispute to the Village Pump
[edit]Please could both of you User:Cradel and User:Rokerismoravee stop edit warring on the Image:Europe location KOS.png and take the issue higher up to decide which images should show what. I suggest Commons:Village Pump. Thank you. -Wikibob (talk) 02:13, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
I have now edited both image variants, please see my edits here and here:
- [1] (Reverted to version as of 00:27, 18 January 2007 - Map showing location of Kosovo, marked red, in Europe; see Image:Europe location SRB with KOS.png for variant with Serbia in gray. Let the commons user projects decide which to use. Take any disputes to the Commons:Village pump and do not revert war, thank you.)
- [2] (added English top description; added deroderdes, unlink all Kosovo because template now does this; add other_versions)
I have also edited Template:Europe location (diff).
If anyone has any problems, please take it to the Village Pump and let the image files remain stable. -Wikibob (talk) 03:24, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

- You cited a non-free site as a source, and claimed copyright on the picture. Someone clarified that only the data was from this site, so I guess it's OK. Please accept my apologies, this was my mistake.
- I was also under the impression that you used a map from Category:Blank_maps_of_the_world, that would require proper attribution. Again, I apologize if this is not true, but it should be clarified. Tryphon (talk) 23:14, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:42, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Newborn_Obelisk.JPG
[edit]Hi, I get that the shot is taken from behind but simply flipping it in photo editing software is a distortion of reality. In reality there is a building immediately behind the monument but in the flipped version it looks like there is a plaza behind it. Ideally someone would have a photo from the front, but in the absence of that I think it is better to simply have the photo as taken, from behind, unflipped. Consider WP:OI, "It is not acceptable for an editor to use photo manipulation to distort the facts or position illustrated by an image." [3] -- Blorg (talk) 15:03, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

File:BoroRamizi.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Regarding Flag_of_Kosovo.svg
[edit]Hello. I noticed that you and Ningyou created an SVG for Flag of Kosovo. I am involved in a project to put together a repository of flags for all standard registered geographical regions (according to IETF language tag and IANA Subtag Registry). Our main criteria for this repository is that all the flags are available as Public Domain. So far we managed to collect information for 240 out of 246 needed flag which are all available as Public Domain on Wikipedias or Commons. Few examples:
- SZ: File:Flag_of_Swaziland.svg
- TA: File:Flag_of_Tristan_da_Cunha.svg
- TC: File:Flag_of_the_Turks_and_Caicos_Islands.svg
- TD: File:Flag_of_Chad.svg
- TG: File:Flag_of_Togo.svg
- TH: File:Flag_of_Thailand.svg
- TJ: File:Flag_of_Tajikistan.svg
- TK: File:Flag_of_Tokelau.svg
Your file, Flag of Kosovo, is among those 6 which are not release under Public Domain and I'm contacting you (as well as Ningyou) to see if it would be possible to re-license this image under PD. Obviously, if you agree to do this, we will make sure that a link-back to Commons page for the image as well as authors' attribution are embedded in the file's metadata fields. We will also provide all the authors of those images collected with a link to the public repository where last version of images are stored. I'd appreciate it if you let me know about the possibility of this. Thank you very much in advance. --Shervinafshar (talk) 00:25, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Cradel. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Cradel~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
