Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~. To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg. You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Afrasiab paintings

Hi, interesting to see your uploads of the Afrasiab paintings. When I uploaded the scan from the book I thought it was the original, but seeing your uploads I think that could be a copy by a modern painter who removed the imperfections. If you can confirm that it is a copy, then I'll have the image I uploaded deleted because it is not the original therefore cannot be used here. Axb3 (talk) 10:53, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi Axb3, I cannot tell precisely because I am not a specialist. I took these pictures in April 2012 and I don't know when the picture you scanned was taken or what is the publication date of the book... It looks very like the real one but the colors are not the same. I don't know if the colors could have been like this in the past years. But also maybe the colors of the pictures I took are not exactly as the real ones... What can I say? I tried to put the two pictures side by side, there seems to be only one diffrerence under the main body of the camel...Sorry not to help you better. The book is from 2004, a book published to go with an exhibition in the British Museum, so it's a kind of exhibition catalog. There are other afrasiab pictures in it, for example the Chinese women princess in the boat. The colours are rather bright compared to yours, so I'm tempted to think that it is a modern copy. It could be that the colours have deteriorated, I'm not really sure. Here's a couple of pictures I found - mural, detail. I'll think about it, but I'll probably have mine deleted because I'm can't be sure. Axb3 (talk) 19:05, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for your help nominating images for deletion. If you find such a clear cut case as the dancer again where you find the exact same picture published on a website earlier than the Commons upload, you can apply a {{Speedy}} tag to it. The template will ask for a reason, just paste the URL of the website in there and explain as you did on the Deletion Nomination. Speedies get zapped faster than DN's. So if you're 100% sure the image was swiped from web - and have link for it - please feel free to use a speedy tag! What you did was absolutely correct and I'm very glad you did it.
