@Joshbaumgartner: In ''{{topic from country|Natural scientists}}'': can we get rid of the parent "Category:People of Country X by occupation", because there is already the parent "Category:Scientists from Country X by field", which has as parent "Category:Scientists from Country X", which has "Category:People of Country X by occupation" as a parent. So this is overcategorization. JopkeB (talk) 11:54, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
- Done Overcat is a good discussion to have. Generally, when I initially set up a new topic for 'topic by country' template use, I model the parents off of the main cat's parent categories. Basically, I look at the main cat, see what reasonable parents have 'by country' indexing, and add those to the data template. Unfortunately, some main cats do not have great categorization discipline, and while I might give a stab at cleaning up obvious situations I don't always fully go down that rabbit hole. Overcat is not always as applicable to index categories as it is to normal topical categories, but certainly in this case, I think 'people of country by occupation' is probably unnecessary.
