Die Medizin (von lateinisch, „Heilkunst“, auch „Heilkunde“) ist die Lehre von der Vorbeugung, Erkennung und Behandlung von Krankheiten und Verletzungen von Menschen und Tieren und mit der Wiederherstellung der bestmöglichen Gesundheit. Dazu erforscht sie die Beschaffenheit und Funktion des menschlichen (Humanmedizin) und tierischen Körpers (Veterinärmedizin) in gesundem und krankem Zustand. (→Medizin)
