Summary

[edit]
Description A lifesize doll of San Simón (Maximón), a Mayan god turned Christian saint, a subject of veneration in Zunil, Guatemala. The shrine moves from one private house to another every year on November 1. People come to pray there and leave various offerings - usually alcohol and tobacco. The local family takes care of the doll and the shrine during the year, while charging a nominal fee (e.g. 5 GTQ) to visitors.
