English: These are two of the three patent drawings for a device made by the U.S. government's National Aeronautics and Space Administration to train its astronauts for spacewalks.
The inventor was Harold I. Johnson of Seabrook, Texas. The 1966 U.S. patent for this device was applied for in 1964. Its patent number is 3,281,963. A thin layer of gas eliminates friction between the board's fulcrum and its base. Another thin layer of gas eliminates friction between the base and the floor.
