Summary
[edit]DescriptionWestern sedge, Carex occidentalis (38759358010).jpg |
western sedge, Carex occidentalis, California, White Mountains, Cottonwood Basin, Granite Meadow, Fishlake Valley drainage, elevation 3062 m (10045 ft). This is a widespread, mostly upland sedge centered in the central and southern Rocky Mountains of the western United States, then scattered farther west and reaching its westernmost limit here in the White Mountains. The species is usually found in fairly generalized habitats in most of its range, but here in the White Mountains it seems to prefer bases and crevices of granite boulders at subalpine elevations. Also visible here are mountain sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata vaseyana) and summer snow (Leptosiphon nuttallii pubescens). |
