English: War memorial, Newgrounds This war memorial (cenotaph) near the Portland Heights hotel commemorates the 223 Portlanders who died in the First World War. It was unveiled on Armistice Day in 1926, in atrocious weather conditions. It was repaired and cleaned up in February 2008. The Cenotaph in central London is built of Portland Stone. |
