Summary
[edit]DescriptionTrinity Bridge and The Lowry Hotel - geograph.org.uk - 332243.jpg |
English: Trinity Bridge and The Lowry Hotel Designed by the Spanish engineer Doctor Santiago Calatrava and completed in 1995, Trinity Bridge spans the River Irwell, which has always separated the Cities of Salford and Manchester. The whole structure rests on one single 40 foot pylon, leaning at a rakish angle, from which the tension cables hang down to suspend the footbridge deck beneath. This area was a dark, dank, long neglected backwater of the city and new developments such as the Lowry Hotel and a riverside piazza with gardens and benches offer a welcoming pleasant recreational area for surrounding business workers and have resurrected the area on the Salford bank. |
