| Description |
English: The picture depicts the icon of the Theotokos that is the Mother of God in the Greek Catholic Cathedral of Hajdúdorog, Hungary. It was painted probably in the end of the 19th century by unknown painter.
Currently it stands in the main nave of the cathedral and it serves as an important altar. The central position of the altar of the Theotokos refers to the high veneration of the God-bearer in the Byzantine rite. The Greek letters on the icon allude to the title of Virgin Mary and to the name of Jesus. MPΘY is standing for the Greek expression Μήτηρ του Θεού that is Mother of God; and the ICXC stands for Iησους Xριστος that is Jesus Christ. Magyar: A fénykép az Istenszülő vagy más néven a Theotokosz ikonját ábrázolja a hajdúdorogi görög katolikus székesegyházból. A képet feltehetőleg a 19. század elején festette ismeretlen festő. Jelenleg a festmény a székesegyház főhajójában áll, és az Istenszülő oltárát díszíti. Az oltár központi helyzete utal arra, hogy a bizánci rítusú görög katolikusok számára kiemelkedő helyet foglal el mária tisztelete. Az ikonon látható görög betűk a Szent Szűz vallásos címére és Jézus nevére utalnak. A MPΘY egy görög kifejezést takar: Μήτηρ του Θεού, azaz Isten Anyja. Az ICXC rövidítés pedig Jézus Krisztus görög nevét takarja: Iησους Xριστος. |
