English: Temple number 3, also known as the Sariputta Stupa, stands as Nalanda's most iconic architectural marvel. It boasts an impressive design featuring numerous tiers of stairs that ascend to its pinnacle. Initially, this temple started as a modest structure but underwent substantial expansion through multiple construction phases (Seven levels). The towers and staircases are adorned with exquisite Gupta-era artwork, showcasing intricate stucco depictions of figures such as Buddha and the Bodhisattvas, along with scenes from the Jataka tales. Surrounding the temple are numerous votive stupas, some of which incorporate inscribed bricks bearing passages from sacred Buddhist texts.
