Description
English: A painting of Shakuntala, a Hindu mythological figure, by Raja Ravi Varma (1848 - 1906). She is depicted sitting under a tree, lost in thoughts about her husband Dushyanta. The divine sage Durvasa, infamous for his short temper, comes towards her hermitage. The legend proceeds with Shakuntala being cursed by him, after she ignored his arrival.
Date (1848 - 1906)
Notes
English: This picture was earlier used for Sita, but after a research, it was confirmed that this painting depicts Shakuntala. See [1], [2]. A similar lithograph of Sita is based on it, this is the main cause of confusion. According to this website, this Shakuntala painting forms the exemplar for the Sita lithograph.
