Description
English: This Silver Turkish Crimea medal was made circa 1855 and is of the pattern originally itended for issue by Turkey's Sardinian allies for their services against Imperial Russia in the Crimean War. This side (the reverse side) features a cannon, mortar and anchor standing on the Russian flag, a map of the Crimea is spread over the cannon, with the four flags of Turkey and her allies in the background.The medal is in a swivel setting within rope twist border.It has been mounted as a brooch at some point.Along the edge of the medal there is the inscription, 'NO. 1878. CR. SERJT. W. GREENWOOD. 33RD. D. R. REGT.' 1855

This is the Sardinian version of the medal, but many were given to British troops, due to the fact a ship bringing part of the consignment of medals to Britain sank.In order to rectify the problem the Turks later gave Sardinian and French strikings to British troops.

The 33rd Regiment of Foot was part of The Duke of Wellington's Regiment
