Another walk-about Whilst the weather is favourable I will be using my daily dose of exercise, sweeping grass and tapping trees and bushes for moths. The garden trap was terrible last night, so I had a lot of making up to do with the paucity of it all at home. Today I was up against it a bit with a keen wind, luckily I finally found a dense hedgerow out of the wind completely and managed to rustle up a few moths amongst the hoardes of St.Marks flys.. which were making it very difficult to pick out the moths flying out of the bushes! 4 new moths for 2020 were recorded, Glyphipterix simpliciella (I forgot how distinct the zebra like palps were), Notocelia cynosbatella, Silver-ground Carpet and a Stigmella sp which is pending (My guess would be hemargyrella). So what are you waiting for? Get out there, alright i've had some funny looks dancing around with a net and having been stopped 3 times alone today asking what I was doing. I've never seen so many people walking aimlessly about at the moment, i'm usually the only one out bar the odd dog walker.
