Summary
[edit]DescriptionRiver Ouse - geograph.org.uk - 1092537.jpg |
English: River Ouse Once the site of Stock Ferry, the original crossing point of the Ouse prior to a bridge being built upstream near Southease. The old public rights of way still exist as footpaths travelling to and from the river on both sides. The river itself once meandered to the right and followed the eastern side of the valley until it was straightened between 1790-1810 to make the Ouse more navigable. The bridge was built over a new stretch of the straightened river. Itford Hill is to the right and Mount Caburn in the centre on the horizon. |
