Two students hold shovels as one plants an iris at the edge of a garden bed.

Three students rejuvenate the iris bed at Glenmont Estate, part of Thomas Edison National Historical Park. Irises appeared in several areas of the historic landscape. In 1937, Mina Edison added a square garden with features that had been suggested in a 1929 plan by landscape architect Ellen Shipman. The garden featured axial grass paths, old-fashioned naturalized plantings, and perennial borders of peonies, hollyhocks, lilies, and irises.
