English: Regnum Jafnapatnam cum insulis adjacentibus

Single sheet, uncoloured engraving. Scale: circa 1:400,000 (bar). Chart of northern Sri Lanka with north at 180 degrees. Borders graduated for latitude and longitude. Soundings shown. Scales in Dutch miles and Spanish, English and French leagues. The chart has a cartouche decorated with figures and a goat. Sea monsters and ships are depicted on the sea and elephants and vegetation on land. Plate no. '26' in bottom right. This chart was published on page 797 of volume 3 of A Collection of Voyages and Travels by Philip Baldaeus, accompanying The True & Exact Description of the Most Celebrated East - India Coast of Malabar and Coromandel and the Island of Ceylon, with all adjacent Countries. The Portuguese fort at Jafnapatnam was captured by the Dutch in 1658.
