Raca este o comuna din sudul judetului Arges. in sec. XV este atestat un schit de calugari cu acest nume. Ca localitate nu avem acte pentru inceputuri, dar un hrisov al lui Vladislav Voivod al treilea din 1525 vorbeste despre aceste meleagfuri, l[s`nd ca mo=tenire c`torvz ajutoare ale sale care-l ajutasera sa ia domnia. Cuvantua RACA insemna <groapa de hotarnicie> de la a racai sau hotar. Oamenii certandu-se pe aceste gropi de hotarnicie, a ramas in limb[ cu sensul de cearta.S-a dezvoltat ca sat manastiresc.
