Description |
English: A copper alloy shoe buckle. The frame is sub rectangular with a seperate iron centre bar, copper alloy stud chape and a copper alloy pin. The sides of the frame are D-sectioned with a thicking at the centre of each of the long sides for the attachment of the bar. The short ends are both widened to a gentle internal curve. There is a slight notch for the pin on the outer edge. The pin is incomplete, D-sectioned and tapering. The chape is has a tapering attachment end and a tongue shaped distal end. The stud is separately applied to the end. The stud is circular at the head with a circular shaft and an expanded terminal at the attachment end. There is a maker's mark on the upper face of the chape which reads S/COOK in two lines. Date: Post medieval - 17th to 18th century |
