Title |
Post-medieval asymmetrical double-looped buckle frame |
||
Description |
English: A slightly worn and corroded cast asymmetrical double-looped buckle frame of post-medieval date. This example is incomplete in so far as it is missing its pin. One loop of the buckle is D-shaped, while the other is trapezoidal. The former features a centrally moulded trilobed knop on its outer edge, perhaps in the form of an acorn. There is also a knop at each end of the pin bar. The edges are externally bevelled on the upper surface; the lower surface is flat. The buckle has corroded to a dull red-brown colour with patches of off-white corrosion product. The trapezoidal loop has been bent is profile as a result of old damage. A similar example can be found illustrated in Whitehead (1996, 92; ref. 584). |
