NHHC 1985-40-A Deck of Playing Cards, USS Arkansas (BB-33) 3.8 x 2.4 x 0.87 Inches

One deck of playing cards from USS Arkansas (BB-33) with a painting of the ship on the back of the cards by noted marine artist Arthur Beaumont. Playing cards such as this were sold in the Ship’s Service Store.

USS Arkansas was commissioned on 17 September 1912 at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The ship served during both World Wars. During World War II, Arkansas earned four battle stars and saw combat during the Allied Invasion of Normandy, the Battle of Iwo Jima, and the Battle of Okinawa. The notable battleship was sunk at Bikini Atoll during atomic bomb testing in Operation Crossroads and decommissioned 29 July 1946.
