Description
English: Somapura Maha Vihara or Paharpur Monastery of Naogaon Bangladesh is among the best known Buddhist Viharas or Monasteries in the Indian Subcontinent and is one of the most important archaeological sites in the country. It was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.
বাংলা: পাহাড়পুর বৌদ্ধবিহার বা সোমপুর মহাবিহার একটি প্রাচীন বৌদ্ধ বিহার বা মঠ। পালবংশের দ্বিতীয় রাজা শ্রী ধর্মপাল দেব (৭৮১-৮২১) অষ্টম শতকের শেষে বা নবম শতকের প্রথমে এই বিহার তৈরি করছিলেন। স্যার আলেকজান্ডার কানিংহাম ১৮৭৯ সালে এই প্রত্নতাত্ত্বিক বিহার আবিষ্কার করেন। ১৯৮৫ সালে ইউনেস্কো এই মঠকে বিশ্ব ঐতিহ্যবাহী স্থানের স্বীকৃতি প্রদান করে।

Somapura Maha Vihara or Paharpur Monastery of Naogaon Bangladesh is among the best known famous Buddhist Viharas or Monasteries in the Indian Subcontinent and is one of the most important archaeological sites in the country. Sir Alexander Cunningham discovered the place in 1879. It was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.
