Summary
[edit]DescriptionOrdovician metasediments - geograph.org.uk - 1439447.jpg |
English: Ordovician metasediments In contrast with the overwhelming majority of granite rocks through this area, the southern tips of Gorumna Island and Lettermullan comprise the country rock into which the granite was intruded some 380 million years ago. The country rock here is Ordovician in age, and the rocks are bedded volcanic and volcaniclastic material. The layered, grey and green rocks make a marked contrast with the smooth, pinkish, homogeneous granite outcrops. Boulders of both rock types make up this beach, which is heavily littered with dried kelps at the high-tide mark. |
