heritage listed former fire station in Liverpool, New South Wales

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Liverpool Fire Station is a symmetrical free standing single storey brick and render parapeted building consisting of three parts. The central section has three engine bay openings that are emphasised by projecting rendered flange around each door. An elegant flag pole support, consisting of two concrete blade columns connected by a horizontal blade at the top, creates a contrasting vertical accent on the western end of the engine bays. Flanking the engine bays are two lower brick rectangular sections with vertical slit windows, used as offices. Built in the style indicative of Functionalism and abstract painting, this building is simple, rational and comprehensive, in keeping with the ideals of the period. It has greater three dimensional qualities than post war Internationalism and a finely balanced relationship of the parts. The flat roof echoes the linear framework of the rest of the building and the repetition of the rectangle creates unity in the building. The interior consists of rendered and painted ceilings in the engine bays and plasterboard in the office area.

In 2011 there were major internal alterations to convert the building for use as a community centre associated with the Sabean Mandean Association.
