Description
English: Newnes (c.1912) from Daily Telegraph (Sydney) 9 Feb 1912, page 11. Original picture caption reads, "Owing to long-continued labor troubles, the company has announced that the worts will be shut down within a fortnight The raw shale, which Is mined half a mile from the works, is brought in on the left of the picture, and the appliances for extracting the oil and other products are fitted in the buildings shown. The retorts are placed at the foot of the mountain, and the coke-ovens are behind the large chimneys. The Wolgan River Is seen In the foreground running round the base of the mountain. This view shows the whole of the works, which comprise a "unit" for the treatment of shale and its by-products."
