Summary

[edit]
Description
English: NGC 3758 with VLT's MUSE instrument

The image shows oxygen [OIII] emission, as well as H-alpha emission.

The oxygen emission maps the known giant AGN-ionized clouds, which were discovered by Keel et al. 2012 (the galaxy is called Mrk 739 in their work)

https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2012MNRAS.420..878K/abstract

The H-alpha emission maps both the AGN-ionized clouds and star-forming regions.

The image at the top shows only the stars.

Image Processing:

The MUSE cube was downloaded from the ESO Archive Science Portal and had the proposal id of 095.B-0482

http://archive.eso.org/wdb/wdb/eso/sched_rep_arc/query?tel=UT4&from_date=01-Oct-2015&progid=095.B-0482(A)&period=96&remarks=Carry:%20carry-over

The images were created with QFitsView and Adobe Photoshop.

https://www.mpe.mpg.de/~ott/QFitsView/index.html

The image at the top is just the average of the entire cube.

The image at the bottom was created by two images: The first image was the [O III] image that was created with the 500.68 nm line of doubly ionized oxygen, loaded in one buffer and subtracted with an additional image of the galaxy outside the line. This way all the stars from the galaxy are subtracted. The resulting cube was then set to "average" and the brightness/contrast/etc. was adjusted. The same was done for H-alpha. The images were then colored and combined with Photoshop.
