Notes British War Medal issued to 12-2669 Staff Sergeant Gladwyn Douglas Connell, 1NZEF, WW1. During WW1 Gladwyn Connell, youngest son of John Aitken Connell, enlisted initially with the Auckland Regiment but was later posted to the NZ Army Pay Corps and served as a Staff Sergeant. He served for a total of 4 years 232 days and received an Honourable Discharge for disabilities being 'unfit for War Service on account of illness contracted on Active Service' (certificate dated 30 April 1920). Despite this he only received a war pension shortly before his death, aged 50 years, on 15th June 1933. At the time Gladwyn Connell was living at Devonport, Auckland.
