Description
English: Feeding activity of a Sohal surgeonfish over the course of a day
The activity of the giant microbe Epulopiscium closely follows the feeding activity of its host fish, providing evidence that they play an important role in helping the fish digest the algae it is eating during the day. The activity of the giant microbe is higher than the feeding activity because it has to digest the algae in the stomach of the fish after it eats the algae.
