METRE ETALON

La Convention nationale, afin de généraliser l'usage du système métrique, fit placer seize mètres étalons en marbre dans les lieux les plus fréquentés de Paris.

Ces mètres furent installés entre février 1796 et décembre 1797. Celui-ci est l'un des deux derniers qui subsistent à Paris et le seul qui soit encore sur son site originel.
