Title
Late Roman zoomorphic buckle - photo
Description
English: Copper-alloy buckle; C-shaped frame with scrolled terminals joined by a short horizontal bar which is enclosed by the loop of the copper-alloy pin. Below each of the scrolled terminals is a lug for attachment to the buckle plate which is now missing. The outer edges of the frame are elaborated to depict a pair of confronted animal heads while the upper surface in the vicinity of the pin has a series of parallel grooves. This is a member of a well known series of Late Roman belt fitting often associated with the army. Photos and drawing created by the finder.
