Description
Bahasa Indonesia: De Javasche Bank memiliki pelindung, yaitu Dewa Hermes. Dewa Hermes dihormati sebagai dewa pelindung perdagangan. Lambang Dewa Hermes ada di salah satu kaca patri yang ada di Museum Bank Indonesia. Dalam mitologi Yunani, Hermes adalah anak dari Zeus dan Maia. Di lingkaran dewa-dewa Olimpia, Hermes merupakan dewa termuda kedua setelah Dionysus. Gambar Dewa Hermes di salah satu kaca patri yang terdapat di rongga tangga Museum Bank Indonesia disimbolkan sebagai dewa pelindung perdagangan. Di bawahnya tertera tulisan DE JAVASCHE BANK OPGERICHT ANNO 1828, yang artinya “De Javasche Bank didirikan pada 1828.” Di bawah gambar Dewa Hermes terdapat tiga kaca patri dalam ukuran yang lebih kecil dengan tiga lambang penting dalam perdagangan di Pulau Jawa kala itu, yaitu Surabaya, Batavia, dan Semarang. Semarang dan Surabaya merupakan kota-kota pertama di mana De Javasche Bank membuka kantor cabangnya.
