Credit / Mention de source : Library and Archives Canada, C-092935 / ibliothèque et Archives Canada, C-092935 Description / Descriptions : Born at Quebec, Gabriel-Elzéar Taschereau (1745-1809) helped to defend Quebec against the British in 1759, and again participated in its defense against the Americans in 1775. In 1777, he was appointed Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in Montreal, and went on to become both a representative in the Legislative Assembly for Lower Canada and in 1798 a member of the Legislative Council. Prior to his death, he held other high offices in Quebec, including that of Deputy Postmaster-General of the province in 1802. It is likely that this miniature was painted in Quebec. / Né à Québec, Gabriel-Elzéar Taschereau (1745-1809) aida à défendre la ville contre les Britanniques en 1759 et participa de nouveau à sa défense contre les Américains en 1775. En 1777, il fut nommé juge de la Cour des plaids communs à Montréal, puis devint représentant à l'Assemblée législative pour le Bas-Canada et, en 1798, membre du Conseil législatif. Avant son décès, il occupa d'autres postes de haut niveau à Québec, dont celui de sous-ministre des Postes de la province en 1802. Selon toute vraisemblance, cette miniature fut peinte à Québec. |
