Description

Karachi, July 29, 2011 - U.S. Ambassador Cameron Munter and his wife Dr. Marilyn Wyatt at the groundbreaking for the new USAID-funded obstetrics-gynecological and fistula ward, as well as a training center at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center.

USAID is building a new 60-bed fistula and OBGYN ward at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center. The new ward will include an outpatient and ultrasound department; pharmacy; waiting area; surgical wards; a dedicated fistula ward and lounge; and staff rooms. This building will expand the ability of the hospital to handle obstetric fistula cases, reduce patient load on the two existing OBGYN wards, reduce waiting time for patients needing critical surgical procedures, and improve maternal care.

Additionally, USAID will construct a new building for the training institute with a seminar hall, skills lab, and library for 150 students.
