Summary

[edit]
Description The 5D2 can hit shots in servo autofocus, but it's just not consistent, and I think I've figured out why. The nature of almost any sort of servo is it's always hunting, and sometimes the error signal is small, and sometimes it's larger. In the 1D3 there's an option to only trigger a shot when the servo system is doing well. In the 5D2 that option isn't there. The focus system isn't feeding back into the shutter system. Maybe it's the difference in shutter latency and can't be helped, or maybe just a design decision. But it explains why I see the difference I'm seeing. The 1D3 essentially never misses. With the 5D2 some are fine. And some are not.
